New jobs allow Quebec to recover losses


Quebec has finally added 25,800 jobs to its economy over the past month, following losses of 42,000 since February. The gains were mostly full-time jobs and were found in the health and social assistance sector as well as in construction. Overall, since the beginning of the year, Quebec’s employment situation has changed very little, with a slight job deficit for the end of June (-500). The province’s employment status for July remains favourable.

The Jobboom Index measures job market strength compared to the previous 120 months. This month’s Index ranks 13th out of 120. In other words, over the past ten years, there were 107 months with weaker Indices. From June 1995 to June 2005, employment grew by 18 percent.
