Quebec records province-wide gains


Quebec gained 15,700 jobs over the past month sending February’s Jobboom Index on a climb. New jobs were created mostly in the retail and wholesale trade sector, in the accommodation and food services sector as well as in the transportation and warehousing industry. This is the first major employment increase for the province since October 2004. Over the last 12 months, employment in Quebec has grown by 2 percent.

The Jobboom Index measures job market strength compared to the previous 120 months. This month’s Index ranks 7th out of 120. In other words, over the past ten years, there were 113 months with weaker Indices. From January 1995 to January 2005 the number of jobs in Quebec grew by 18 percent.
