Jobboom Index for December

Employment in Quebec remains stable

Quebec gained 1,200 jobs last month. This rather weak performance is mostly due to losses in the finance, insurance, real estate and leasing sector as well as in health care and social assistance (− 27,300). The declines, however, were offset by gains in other services as well as in the information, culture and recreation sector (+ 31,600).

Quebec’s year-to-date net employment record remains positive (+ 41,200), with a growth rate of 1.1 per cent. Employment growth for the past 12 months was 0.8 per cent with a net total of 29,800 new jobs.
