The increases in the Goods-producing sector are counterbalanced by losses in the Services sector (-5,400 jobs). There were increases in several sub-sectors: Information, culture and recreation (+ 8,900 jobs), Finance, insurance, real estate and leasing (+ 8,100), Healthcare and social assistance (+ 5,900), Educational services (+ 5,800), Corporate services, Business, building and other support services (+ 5,600), and Commerce (+ 3,000). However, the losses are greater: Accommodation and food services (-14,100), Public administration (-9,600), Transportation and warehousing (-8,700), Other services (-6,200), and Professional, scientific and technical services (-4,000).
Toronto region: 0 % — Unfavourable In June, this CMA lost 2,100 jobs bringing the 2009 total to 31,800 jobs lost. Therefore, the Jobboom Index remains at 0 % for the fifth consecutive month. Over the past 12 months, employment has decreased by 1.9 % in the region. This month’s Index ranks 120th out of 120, meaning there were no other months with a weaker index over the past 10 years. From 1999 to 2009, employment in this region has nevertheless increased by 20 %.
