Job Description
Full-time, salaried job: $100k based on experience + benefits starting day 1.
This position will be required to establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with Project Managers, and Technical Staff; as well as being responsible for implementation of project management methodologies for the planning and control of projects. This position is also responsible for carrying out all the planning, scheduling and coordination required to execute a project or campaign.
• As a consulting engineer, research and develop open pit mine plans and underground mine designs.
• Implementing novel methodologies in conceptual, pre-feasibility, feasibility and existing operation projects.
• Prepare and create technical reports as a Qualified Person (QP).
• Establishing and maintaining client relationships.
• Conducting design viability studies (underground mines and open pit mines).
• Participating in estimating projects budget (feasibility studies, cash flow analysis, NPV & IRR).
• Constructing pit designs for short and long term projects.
• Ability to compose clear and concise technical reports.
• Possible travel to other SGS laboratory locations in Canada or overseas on either short term assignments
• May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.
Qualifications
• Education: University degree in Mining Engineering or in a related engineering discipline (Geology, Mines, Mineralogy, Environmental Mineralogy, Soil Science etc.).
• Experience:
o A minimum of 5 - 10 years technical experience in a minerals related profession.
o Over 5 years of working experience in estimating project budgets from the start until the completion of a project.
REQUIRED SKILLS
• Expert working knowledge of the mining and minerals industry with rock mechanics an asset.
Knowledgeable in Mine Planning Training, Mine Evaluation, Mine Reclamation Planning, Mine Operation Management, Mine Environment Management and Equipment selection.
• Strong leadership and management skills with a demonstrated ability to lead and manage people.
• Capable of operating without being under close supervision.
• Superior organizational, communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
• Some positions require proficiency of other languages besides English (French, Spanish, Russian, Arabic etc.).
• Must be able to read, understand and follow work instructions in a safe, accurate and timely manner.
• Candidates must be proficient in using various types of computer software (Word, Excel. PowerPoint, Outlook and AutoCad).
• A solid understanding of MS Project Management and Oracle applications would also be an asset.
• Knowledge of the following specialized software (GEOVIA GEMS, WHITTLE, DATAMINE, SURPAC, SURPAC MINEX or other relevant software).
• Proven ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects in a fast-paced, highly professional environment.
• Candidates must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar and composition.
• Ability to work well with others & independently.
• Proven time management skills and a strong attention to detail.
• Works well under pressure.
• Extended hours and shift work may be required from time to time.
• Travel to other SGS locations or client location may be required from time to time.
