Technical Project Manager

Caterpillar of Canada's facility in Laval, Quebec, is a leading provider of machine guidance and asset management solutions for the open pit mining industry. Caterpillar of Canada uses GPS, production monitoring, wireless networks and embedded computers to perform real-time optimization of mining machinery fleets. We are currently expanding our facilities and looking for talented individuals to fill several job positions. We offer a dynamic environment with challenging and exciting opportunities.

We are looking for a technical projet Manager who will manage and deliver a sub-system development program, leading a team of assigned engineers and technologists from software, hardware and system integration discipline (team of 5 to 10 people). The candidate is the prime engineering interface, accountable for delivering on time, quality and cost the sub-system deliverables to the program sponsor.

The primary job duties of the technical project Manager will be to define project plan, establish and track schedule and deliverables; manage assigned resources’ activities and define work priorities; pro-actively manage risk and opportunities in order to secure project deliverables; define action and recovery plans, find and implement solutions; report on development progress to engineering manager & project stakeholders; provide a collaborative environment to promote the best decisions; interface with systems architect and engineering manager for strategic decisions; create and maintain a positive work environment where the project team will work effectively, innovate, proactively collaborate and be committed to the business success and customer’s satisfaction.

Other requierements and conditions of employement:

-Knowledge of the open pit mining operations, machinery and guidance systems (an asset);
-Self-learner who will quickly understand product technologies, their challenges, the system interfaces, and the development process & tools used at Caterpillar;
-Knowledge of product development process and agile methodologies;

Requirements

  • Essential - Bachelor degree in engineering or equivalent
  • Important - 3+ years managing and leading cross-functional
  • Important - 3+ years managing project, deliverables, schedules
  • Important - 3+ years: in a embedded product development role
  • Asset - PMP certification/training in project management

Knowledge and abilities

  • Important - bilingual
  • Important - C/C++ programming under Windows, software RTOS
  • Important - Human Machine Interface (HMI) design under Windows
  • Important - TCP/IP, SSL, high precision GPS, CAN and RS232 int
  • Important - Available for international business travel(15%)
