Supervisor (bilingual) for a Veterinary Diagnostic Laborator

Position: Supervisor (bilingual) for a Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory
Employment summary:
Supervise a team of technicians/technologists to assure efficiency and quality results according to the standards established by the company. The supervisor will also perform laboratory tests, as needed (not to exceed 50% of total responsibilities, other than on an exception basis).
We are seeking a generalist experienced in the following areas: Chemistry, Endocrinology, Haematology, Immunology and Urinalysis.
The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience including the following skills: recruiting and hiring, training and development of laboratory personnel, performance management including schedule conflicts, disciplinary actions, etc.
The operational hours of the laboratory are from 8am-10:30pm Monday to Friday and from 10am-5:30pm on Saturday. The supervisor will primarily work the day schedule, but will have to supervise the evening and Saturday shifts on a regular basis also.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
• Maintain a working knowledge of each department’s standard operating procedures(SOP)
• Be able to perform all routine testing and analysis of specimens in each department
• Ensure results analysis including quality control of test results
• Monitor, analyze, review and sign all department quality control (QC) documentation
• Monitor workflow to ensure client turnaround times (TATs) are met
• Ensure all logs and records are filled and up to date according to IDEXX standards
• Ensure daily maintenance and calibration of equipment
• Maintain supply of reagents and consumables needed in each department
• Investigate complaints and incidents within the department
• Responsible for scheduling department staff
• Assist in development and management of financial budget requirements
• Provide business review information to Lab Manager
• Manage personnel including recruiting, hiring and training new employees, maintaining training and development records; performance management including reviews, coaching/counselling, disciplinary/corrective action, terminations, etc.
• Understand, follow, and enforce IDEXX laboratory safety procedures
• Understand, follow, and enforce IDEXX quality control procedures
• Have a basic understanding and following of concepts LEAN and 5S
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Qualities and skills required:
Education:
• MLT or AHT certification essential
• An Administrative diploma in combination with one of the certifications listed above would be preferable
Experience:
• 4 years or more experience as a Lab Supervisor
• Bilingual, French and English necessary
Skills:
• Solid communication skills
• Excellent interpersonal relations
• Demonstrated skills in leadership effectiveness and teamwork
