Enterprise Infrastructure (EI)
EI is that global technology group that delivers the software and hardware technology solutions that make our businesses run. The team manages the production, operations, and engineering of our data centers, voice and data networking solutions, wireless technologies, server and database operations, desktops, servers and mainframes.
We are looking for a strong developer to join us to work on an a global end-to-end customer compute fabric. We have designed and are releasing an open source fabric that allows our internal customers to effortless access and share computing resources. The developer will be focusing also on extending this solution to orchestrate the same abstraction to the public cloud. From end to end: core product, tooling, deployment and UI. Looking for a committed individual with the drive and determination to help deploy features and drive up internal adoption from thousands to tens of thousands of nodes and applications.
The role involves developing, support and maintenance, and a reasonable amount of customer communication. In addition, it involves a significant amount of interaction with global operations teams (in locations including Canada and India) that provide support and coverage for the product. The technical skills that we are looking for are a good understanding of core infrastructure (operating systems, file systems, high availability and cluster solutions), experience with Python and some Perl and distributed platforms. Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, will be essential to succeed in a customer facing role such as this one. Presentation and training skills are key in terms of successfully working with operations teams across the world. The ability to work in a team (including cross regional) and the ability to build relationships with customers is a must. The ability to understand customer requirements and take ownership of problems through to resolution is also important. Finally, the ability to establish process for operations teams will be necessary as well providing best practices for the production environment.
- Fluent in Python (polyglots are welcome)
- Experience in developing scalable and complex distributed systems.
- Strong familiarity with network protocols and iptables.
- Experience designing APIs
- On boarding new customers and delivering training.
- Documentation and process improvement working with remote ops teams.
- Engineering escalations to deal with problems from the ops teams.
- Strong verbal and written skills required to interact with a global teams and customers
- Proficient in Linux/Solaris, including scripting and an understanding of process management
- An understanding of high availability and clustering technologies
- Excellent problem solving skills, in particular a methodical approach to dealing with problems across distributed systems
- Proficient in windows including scripting and an understanding of process management
