Located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, the Chaudière-Appalaches region is bordered to the northeast by the Bas-Saint-Laurent region, to the southeast by the United States (State of Maine) and the region Estrie, to the west by the Centre-du-Québec region and to the north by the Capitale-Nationale region.
It is made up of ten regional county municipalities (MRC) and 136 municipalities.
The region has more than 435,000 inhabitants, or more than 5.09% of the population of Quebec in 2021, which ranks it 8th among the 17 administrative regions of Quebec. The city of Lévis represents more than a third of the region's population.
The main cities of Chaudière-Appalaches are Lévis, Saint-Georges, Thetford Mines, Sainte-Marie and Montmagny.
The natural resources of Chaudière-Appalaches can be summed up mainly in its forests (which moreover occupy three quarters of its territory), its rich subsoil which abounds in materials such as asbestos, stone, sand and gravel and its fertile land.
The forest industry, which mainly produces paper, pulp, firewood or construction wood, is very prosperous. The agricultural sector, on the other hand, is focused on pig farming and dairy production.
