Education/Training
Does it make horse sense?
They fire bad managers, don't they? Well, horsy folk know that poor communication skills are the hallmark of failed leaders. Equine-leadership training, whereby big shot, corporate managers get dirty leading horses through obstacle courses, is the latest fad in personnel training. Although horses don't talk, they are excellent teachers that are not easily intimidated and react honestly to human body language and behaviour. Managers need to use clear and authentic directions to if they want to successfully coax their horse into walking around a corral, failing which it will just wander off and do it's own thing.

Negotiation Tips
Tempt Talent with Creative Recruiting
What makes married individuals so attractive to people other than their spouses? Part of the allure is that they've been pre-approved by someone else. Similarly, many recruiters find employed individuals more intriguing than job seekers. Which brings us to the million-dollar question: What can Human Resource practitioners do to reel in these "passive candidates" who could be lured away by a more attractive package? In addition to being creative, employers and HR need to convince these individuals that the rewards of leaving outweigh the risks.

Recognition
Will work for PlayStation
Are you a Torontonian, Montrealer or Haligonian? Do you feel like banging your head against a wall while you wait in vain for a response to your job applications? Well, in Western Canada the job-market outlook is so good the mood is downright festive - to the point that Calgarians are flinging fossil-fuel laden mud at each other in a scene reminiscent of Woodstock. From Saskatchewan to British Columbia, employers are lavishing their employees with trinkets such as video game consoles and offering lifestyle goodies like yoga classes, golf memberships and family days to combat rampant labour shortages.

Time Management
Take a bite out of stress
Some people enjoy spending their evenings relaxing in their condos cooking fusion recipes from scratch whilst indulging in fine bottles of Merlot. Others, however (like mothers of eight children), simply don't have the option. In this day and age, cooking is a distinctly bourgeois pursuit. Now, the most forward-thinking companies are offering their employees pick up meals to take home, thus freeing time for heads of households to spend with their children. Brilliant.

Are you... a sneaker freak? A recent poll of consumer personality traits shows that individuals who have closets full of new sneakers are most fit for leadership roles:

People who buy more than three pairs of sneakers a year are 61 percent more likely to have the qualities of a modern leader.
These qualities were defined as having ideas and vision, and a style with others that is both inclusive and decisive.
Multi-sneaker buyers were 50 percent more likely to be very assertive and 47 percent more likely to be spontaneous.
These personality traits held true across the board, regardless of age, income, or gender.
