What Matters Most
In these uncertain times, money is actually becoming less important to employees. Instead, they prefer to have health insurance, job security and clear work procedures and policies. In fact, money ranked tenth overall in a recent survey, with respondents preferring a slew of other job characteristics and workplace benefits. What's worth more than salary? Retirement plans and a flexible family-friendly atmosphere. What's least important? Having a creative and intellectually stimulating job.

Newsworthy
'Blue Monday' the most depressing day of year
Are you SAD? Many individuals living in arctic climates suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder during the winter, which is accompanied by bone shattering cold, varying doses of snow and ice, and limited daylight. Depressed employees are disengaged at work, less productive and have higher chances of absenteeism. On the other hand, it could be their jobs, not the weather, that's bringing them down. The causes can vary from having a bad day at work to a boss who is difficult to get along with.

Workplace Challenges
Dangerous workplace phrases
If your boss asks how you are doing, you'd be best to suppress your urge to shout out "Overworked and underpaid." Even if it's true, that answer could land you in hot water. There are several other phrases bosses hate hearing as well, so you'd best keep them to yourself.

Job Termination
The new retirement
The Baby Boomers are facing an uncertain future as they gaze into their retirement. Apparently, not everyone will be enjoying Tilley Endurables, Hawaiian shirts, camcorders and a summer cruises. In fact, many individuals 65 and over will delay their retirement or re-enter the workforce under more flexible arrangements. This new trend will help ease the demographic crisis faced by the North American economies. Also, many retirement-aged individuals are unprepared in terms of their savings, leaving them with little choice but to keep on working well into their Golden Years.

Workplace Challenges
Rules to voicemail
Voice-mail is going the way of the fax. Not only is it becoming quaint in today's fast paced business environment, it will soon be a workplace dinosaur. Younger workers are leading the pack using new technologies like call-display, text messaging and e-mail to communicate important messages. These tools have supplanted the trusty ol' answering machine. What's more, life without voice-mail still hinges on the expectation that individuals are immediately available on their mobile devices when they are not at their desks.

Are you... a businessman with busy hands? Mexico City recently instituted a women-only bus service to stave off constant sexual harassment by male commuters.
-Mexico City already had reserved the first three cars in subway trains for women and children, but this is the first time the model has been applied to buses.
-Mexican women have long complained of abuse from men taking advantage of overcrowding to sneak in an inappropriate grab.
-The special buses pull up at ordinary stops but have large pink "women only" signs on the front and side.
-Women using the new service on Monday had space to sit down and giggled as the driver turned men away at the door.
