CYBERFINDS
Social networking with the elite
There's social networking and then there's social networking. Some individuals find the boundless limits of the Internet somewhat intimidating—like a sprawling, unfamiliar downtown core—with evil lurking around every corner. There seems to be a backlash to the egalitarian free-for-all of websites like MySpace and Facebook, inhabited by the hoi polloi wasting valuable seconds of their bosses' time clocks. Now a new crop of social networking sites is sprouting up: they have entry restrictions and target like-minded professionals engaged in important and meaningful networking. To continue with the urban-planning metaphor, these new sites are akin to gated communities.

MANAGING STRESS
Money and work spell S-T-R-E-S-S
Almost half of American employees lament that their stress levels have gone up in the last five years. Moan and groan as they might, the inalienable equation between time and money still pervades the workplace. And the stress this causes is responsible for numerous ills: lost productivity, obesity, hypertension, heart disease, and deteriorating interpersonal relationships. Yet, rising stress levels may not always be employees' fault. Sure, an employee may not be up to the job—but he or she can also lack the necessary resources. That's the employer's fault.

NEWSWORTHY
The "Millennials" are coming
A turf battle of epic proportions is heating up in the North American workplace. The Millennials and the Boomers are on opposite sides of the workforce, and the posturing across the boardroom table has begun. The younger, tech-savvy generation of new grads is flaky and flighty. They're quick to shirk authority and fast to move to another job. The older segment, on the verge of retirement, has its hands full with a new, unforeseen assignment. They're trying to corral this new generation of underlings and break the Millennials into the harsh realities of the world without shattering their fragile, failure-free egos.

Stay-at-home moms, look ahead!
Some experts suggest that new mothers nurture their careers along with their new bundles of joy. So that once moms ship their toddlers off to daycare, they won't be starting from a standstill. About a year before the actual date, new moms should revive their professional identities by joining a professional association, volunteering in a related field or taking a night course.

JOB INTERVIEWS
Preparing for assessment tests
Hiring managers have nightmares about hiring a dud employee. It's not the end of the world per se, but the quick dismissal is an embarrassment for everyone involved. So now human resource practitioners have devised a series of pop quizzes to keep candidates on their toes during the interview process. They've decided it may be best to see some action, rather than sitting through endless rounds of listening to stock answers and reading fluffed half-truths of résumés.

Do you… manage hangovers well? With the holiday office-party season fast approaching, a self-proclaimed professional drinker offers advice on avoiding a morning-after hangover that could quickly develop into your worst day at work-ever.
  • It is imperative that you begin your morning with a mixture of the following: two Advil followed by several large glasses of water.
  • Do not take Excedrin Migraine as it has caffeine and may upset your stomach.
  • Eat. Try burnt toast or a burnt bagel.
  • Take a moment to look in the mirror for one last check... tie your shoes, make sure your socks match.
