Is the "no work, no experience" loop really worse than the conundrum faced by day-labourers across North America? For many of them who are illegal immigrants, the riddle sounds more like: "no papers, no dignity". Now their grassroots efforts have yielded the beginnings of an organized workforce and an increase in wages.

The summer movie, The Devil Wears Prada, about a ruthless magazine editor, prompted the media's recent scrutiny of the "bad boss" phenomenon. It's revealed that it is not just limited to the fickle world of fashion.

Sexual discrimination isn't 'trivial'
The harrowing tale of a woman's nine-year battle, which landed her in the Supreme Court, stands as a testament to the gender struggle in the workplace. Forklift operator Sheila White, a woman in a non-traditional job, fought against being sexually harassed. Her employer demoted Ms. White in retaliation to her first victory in the courts. Such actions are enough to discourage the use of flippant remarks when addressing colleagues.

Work sex gap shrinking
Anecdotal evidence suggests men still have trouble taking out the garbage without being asked, they rarely mop and won't touch the bathroom. Yet Canadian statisticians (mostly men) would like you to believe otherwise. They recently examined the time that women and men spent on paid work and unpaid chores between 1986 and 2005. The results suggest that the gap in a household's division of labour is narrowing.
