Cubicle to celebrate 40th birthday
Few office employees today remember what working life was like prior to the cubicle, when the "Action Office," the original term coined for the open plan, subdivided workplace invented by Herman Miller in 1968, ruled the day. Yet on the eve of the cubicle's 40th birthday, most people dread the fabric-panelled cell walls initially conceived to provide some privacy and storage while creating a spacious and egalitarian environment. To this day, office furnishings and the working environments they create remain an important part of attracting and keeping employees.

E is for evil
The instantaneous nature of e-mail may make it seem like a godsend for rapid communication and souped-up productivity; however, truth be told, many messages end up wallowing in overflowing inboxes. The sheer volume of correspondence creates a mire of "data fog." Rather than wait for the fog to lift, it's best to understand and work within the limitations of the medium, which is best suited to basic correspondence requiring simple responses.

Dealing with disorder
Behind every great employee there's a great significant other (to paraphrase a
now-outdated and chauvinistic expression). Indeed, life partners should be sources of support and encouragement who help us excel in our careers. So, what happens when your Rock of Gibraltar turns into rubble? Going through a divorce or breakup can be a traumatic experience and, while all is fair in love and war, it's important to limit the impact so the debris doesn't spill over into the professional arena.

In short, travel within Europe has become downright expensive. Although moonlighting to pay for your summer vacation isn't highly recommended, you may need a detailed savings plan prior to booking.

Are you… a pedal pusher? Road rage is so last millennium. Faced with skyrocketing fuel prices, more Canadians are opting to ride their bicycles to and from work. However, Canucks still lag way behind their European cousins when it comes to bicycle commuting.
- Cyclists are more likely to enjoy their commute than those stuck behind the wheel.
- According to Stats Can, 59% of cyclists enjoy their daily trips compared to 37% of drivers.
- Only 1% of all commuters biked to work in Canada in 2001.
- At 5%, Victoria, BC has the highest percentage of bicycle commuters.
- In Copenhagen, 36% of commuters bike to work and in Amsterdam, 55% take the two-wheel option.
