There's nothing like a little of the old supply-demand to wipe the smug expressions off of the cherubic faces of Generation-Y employees. Perhaps, though, the intergenerational workforce conflict between Boomers, Gen-Xers and Yers doesn't boil down to anything more than hollow stereotypes. Yet with the economic downturn and Boomers postponing retirement, Gen-Xers are proving to be the whiny, middle child.

In Waterloo, Ontario, up to 2,000 high-paying, high-tech jobs need to be filled. Yet, the region is registering an above the national average 9.3 per cent unemployment rate. According the Mayor Brenda Halloran: while the high-tech and education sectors are booming, others parts of the local economy aren't, like the manufacturing and service sectors.
