Quitting

It's definitely a gamble and a bit of a stunt, but one media expert recommends that gutsy job market players quit their current jobs in order to attract the attention of their next hiring managers in the early rounds of the interview process. Ending an employment relationship, whatever the causes, can prove to be a legal minefield and it is best that both sides know their rights. Many individuals spend too much time in the employment twilight zone —somewhere between hating their jobs and looking for a new one.

Desk rage in the air

According to one columnist in Canada's largest city, it's a miracle everyone's not strangling each other by the 10 a.m. coffee break. We can blame those government-types engaging in lengthy public works, creating HOV- and bicycle lanes. According to diverse sources, Christian Bale-like blowouts are increasingly commonplace these days, even among the commoners.

Newsworthy

The phony job offer

Children of the Internet may spend sizable amounts of time as technical support for their Boomer parents. Yet in the current economic climate, they must be doubly aware of Web-based employment scams which are on the rise. At this point, everyone's extra susceptible to any fragment of good news, particularly job seekers.

Economy

Does the U.S. make anything anymore?

With everything "Made in Someotherland," the American economy may have lost its reputation as a manufacturing powerhouse. Instead of making trinkets, which now happens overseas, American factories have gone up-market, seeking the largest profits, and fine-tuning efficiency. Factoid: In the 80s the United States made 80 percent of what its people consumed, today that number's closer to 65.

While many employees are loosing their jobs, a brownie- and cookie-wielding Wisconsin, restaurant worker proved that getting fired isn't a piece of cake.

- An employee trashed a Qdoba restaurant in an attempt to get fired and collect unemployment compensation.

- The 35-year-old man showed up and started throwing brownies and cookies on the floor.

- The man then went into the kitchen and threw pots and pans around, then went into a storage area and threw boxes of hot sauce on the floor.

- He told police that he couldn't collect unemployment if he simply quit.
