Office romance

One part naughty emails, one part sneaking around, one morning of awkwardness, two parts crushed career aspirations and just a dash of co-worker gossip: Dating at work can amount to a recipe for disaster. Many corporations draft explicit policies, but that can't keep some people apart. Close-quarters and intense workplace feelings are likely to develop with your workplace spouse. It's a fact one in five relationships start in the workplace.

Newsworthy

33 per cent 'viewed online porn at work'

Over 60 per cent claimed to have had a fling with a colleague. A quarter of respondents admitted to have mistakenly emailed saucy comments intended for a lover to another co-worker. Nearly two-thirds have returned to work drunk from alcohol at lunch. A similar proportion had been sick at the office due to a hangover. And nearly a third of those surveyed admitted to falling asleep at their desks.

Losing a Job

Stopping 'survivor guilt'

Employers' first move should be to help remaining employees deal with the added stress of doing less with more. Managers can accomplish this by dealing honestly with their direct reports and reminding to focus on what they can control, rather than worrying about what they can't. Negotiation tips

Long ring finger may mean more cash

This biological trait in men has been attributed to success in other competitive fields and observed among professional athletes. Now, scientists are attributing this ring to index finger ratio to the business world. A longer ring finger means that as a fetus the individual was exposed to a greater amount of the male hormone androgen, increasing confidence, risk-taking, persistence, vigilance and reaction times.

Bocuse d'Or

This two-day culinary competition in Lyon, France, is like the Super Bowl for aspiring celebrity chefs. While few of them will make it to TV-stardom, like Gordon Ramsey or Emeril Lagasse, there's a purity about the event because at this point in their young careers it's all about the food. Far from being a sedate cooking show with Martha Stewart, this international cook-off is a spectator sport and the hoards of supporters are deafening.
