Firms Pump-up the Wellness
Whirlpool Corp. suspended 39 factory employees in Indiana for lying about their status as smokers in order to cash in a $500 company insurance benefit for non-smokers. Swedes Pamper Employees
Unlike the hordes of Australian backpackers, one rarely encounters Swedes in youth hostels. The Swedes in both the public and private sectors are quite happy staying in Sweden, in their social-democratic monarchy. Yet all is not as it seems, Sweden has the highest workplace absenteeism rate in Europe. People just aren't afraid to call in sick. Over 50 and Applying for Jobs?
Retired individuals wanting to return to the workforce must remember their resume isn't a memoir. They can't go on and on like Grandpa Simpson. The post-computer-on-every-desktop workplace has changed the game, particularly the job application process. Older applicants may have to learn some new tricks. Generally, it's email rather than faxing or mailing.
