Well, it's official. The news that employers spy on the messages coursing through their computer servers has long been fodder for water-cooler gossip and massive paranoia. Now, a study confirms that 33% of American and British companies actually have people specifically hired to read and analyze the content of outgoing mail. "Who's the mole," you may wonder as you stand in line panning over the lunchroom crowd.

So you're a bit of a gear-head and thought working at a gas bar would be a chill way to spend the summer. Well, it's suddenly turned into a big hassle. These unsuspecting, entry-level, retail employees are on the front lines of "gas rage." They're getting an earful from drivers, furious about today's high price of gas and spewing choice words about the oil companies.

A new generation of online work-search tools is emerging to complement - if not directly challenge - existing job portals.

These job tools are often branded as "Web 2.0" because they build on top of first-generation Web applications.

Some sites display search results as digital maps dotted with nearby job openings.

Others crawl the web in search of opportunities posted in the "careers" section on companies' websites, but tailored to a specific city.
