Toronto Hr Consultant Wins
Lucky winner Marcia Mayorga, a Toronto-based HR consultant with Kelly Services, will enjoy a $1500 travel voucher provided by Exit.ca. Her name was chosen in Jobboom's draw among hundreds of HR professionals who visited the Jobboom booth at the recent HRPAO "Here 07" event held in Toronto from January 31 to Feb 2. HEALTH
Is your job making you fat?
All computer desk jobs require more or less the same tasks as a dull video game, typing on a keyboard and poking at symbols on a screen. Health experts worry that this isn't enough daily physical activity. A recent survey found that the activity among different professions can vary by 400 percent. There are ways, however, to make sure you get some activity. Even if going to the gym on a daily basis isn't feasible, wearing a pedometer is a good start. After all, you can't manage what you don't count.

TRENDSPOTTING
She earns more and that's okay
North American households where the woman earns more are becoming increasingly common. Along with the shrinking gender wage gap, social attitudes among young couples in their twenties and thirties are also more relaxed. A man doesn't necessarily think he has to bring home all of the bacon anymore and a woman doesn't feel as though she needs someone to support her.

IN THE HOTSPOT
Study notes link between IT sabotage, work behavior
Beware of snappish and snide Information Systems employees. The U.S. military has come up with a profile for corporate cyber criminals and, according to their research, Information Systems employees commit an overwhelming majority of these crimes. Other common traits of a cyber criminal include being tardy, argumentative and paranoid. Again, a good protection against computer crime simply comes down to proper password administration.

TUG O'WAR
Managing the needy employee
There's a reason why many employers seek "independent and motivated self-starters" in their job ads - they're screening for the needy employee who can bog down an entire department. But while it may be tough to coddle your problem employee, don't pull the trap door lever just yet. Some say that, if the pupil fails, it's the professor's fault.

PROFILE
On-the-job training
The top brass of North American restaurant chain, Hooter's, showed compassion for their servers when they chose running shoes instead of high heels for their uniforms. After all, it's an active job, which keeps the staff fit. One Edmonton waitress estimates she walks eight kilometers in a 12-hour shift. However the numbers don't add up. At an average speed of just over 0.5 km/h, patrons in her section would be justified to complain about the slow service.

Do you… feel sleepy? Evidence shows that a mid afternoon nap is good for your heart. So go ahead; start napping at the office with impunity: kick off your shoes, lean back and take a siesta.

- A study of 23,681 Greek men and women found strong evidence in support of taking a nap.

- Individuals who took a midday nap of at least 30-minutes at least three times a week were 37 percent less likely to die from heart disease.

- Even the occasional siesta was associated with a 34 percent lower risk of heart disease.

- Among working men, napping of any sort resulted in a 64 percent reduction in risk of dying from heart disease.
