Newsworthy
Golf? You're not working hard enough
South Korea's new president, a well-known workaholic, has invoked the master-servant metaphor for his public sector employees, meaning their workday now starts at 7:30 a.m. and puttering around the golf course to broker a deal or discuss public policy is absolutely out of the question. The once bureaucrats, who are now quite literally enslaved public servants in this two-week old government, are already showing signs of burnout.

Dilbert imitates work - more so than usual
[Singing] "Well you know my name is Scott Adams and the things I draw come true!" The Dilbert comic strip creator's power over the North American workforce is undeniable, and now he has drawn inspiration from the firing of an Iowa casino worker to create a postmodern art/reality vortex. The casino employee lost his job for posting a Dilbert comic strip depicting management as "drunken lemurs." Now, Catbert, the evil director of human resources, has stepped in with a firing of his own.

Commuting/Business Travel
Tackling urban gridlock with foldable cars
If you are still a solo commuter driving a Hummer or other gas-guzzling SUV, you have probably been living under a rock. And don't be mistaken - those derisive looks aren't rooted in jealousy. The four-cylinder, HOV fans are in fact calling your social engagement into question. Perhaps you should opt for one of the "smart" choices the next time you're in the market for a new vehicle. After all, hybrids, car-sharing, electric cars and their offspring are the new generation of luxury vehicles.

Workplace challenges
The art of hiring and firing
Even if you're not an artist, there's no reason why you cannot apply the concept of artistry to your work. In fact, this inclination is highly advantageous to managers and supervisors, whose mediums are their organizations' revolving doors. So much is at stake, like productivity and performance. The true art of management lies in confronting employees with grace and flair.

As you surely know... the opposite of privacy is disclosure.
An interesting take from a privacy expert on the nature of surveillance and the balance of power between state and society.

• You cannot evaluate the value of privacy and disclosure unless you account for the relative power levels of the discloser and the disclosee.
• An example: If I disclose information to you, your power with respect to me increases. One way to address this power imbalance is for you to similarly disclose information to me.
• This mechanism fails utterly if you and I have different power levels to begin with.
• When your doctor says "take off your clothes," it makes no sense for you to say, "You first, doc." The two of you are not engaging in an interaction of equals.
