Newsworthy
Office worker freakout
It looks like someone had a big-time case of the Mondays. A surveillance camera in a Moscow office caught a salesman losing his temper and trashing his workplace. What pushed him over the edge? According to Russian news sources, the last straw came when a colleague joked with the man about having to spend his vacation in Crimea, rather than Thailand, because the company withheld a portion of his commissions. Can anyone say "Don't tase me, Bro!" in Russian? Meanwhile debate rages on the Internet whether the video is authentic or fake.

Are you a workaholic?
If you're late before you even wake up, you may be a workaholic. If you have breakfast meetings, power lunches, networking cocktails and client dinners, you are probably a workaholic. If you can't remember your partner's birthday but know your bosses, you are most likely a workaholic. If you sleep with your PDA rather than a teddy bear, you are definitely a workaholic.

Women vs. men: Who's better at business?
Modern individuals like to pretend that the division of labour between the sexes is a thing of the past - a vestige of the dark days of a semi-nomadic hunting and gathering society. Granted, this age-old formula seems to have lasted an awfully long time - well into the 20th century. In today's white collar workplace, most men and women have departed from this tradition, opting to believe that either sex is equally good at everything. Well, in fact, it's not a question of better or worse. According to a new book, when it comes to the workplace, men and women are just different.

The 7 second advantage
When being introduced to a new business acquaintance, most people find themselves overwhelmed by fear, which is why they have such a hard time remembering anyone's name. Business cards help to a certain extent, albeit only in an after-the-fact sort of way. So, while both parties usually worry about whether their hands are clammy or if there are bits of lunch wedged between their teeth, a keen business person uses the first seven seconds of a first encounter to create a lasting impression. Follow their example with these subtle tips: adjust your attitude, stand tall, smile, make eye contact, raise your eyebrows, shake hands and lean in slightly.

Green grief?
While people are pretty diligent about sorting their waste and reducing, reusing and recycling at home, according to a recent survey, Canadians and Americans do not employ the same environmental rigour in the workplace, where the prevailing attitude dictates that it must be someone else's responsibility. Do visitors have to wade through piles of discarded wrapping paper and empty Styrofoam cups when dropping by your cubicle? Do you print in a mindless, single-sided manner? Do you leave your computer and office lights on at night? In fact there's a whole list of environmental pet peeves that make Canadians workers seem, well, er, less so. (Source: Jobboom, Career Zone)
