Jobboom and Sun Media Shine
This month, Jobboom specialists will train print sales representatives at six daily newspapers on how to offer new and better employment solutions to meet the needs of the diverse Canadian labour market. In addition to looking for work the traditional way, Jobboom members can now network and advertise online, using the six White Label websites developed specifically for these newspapers. Through this interactive teamwork, Canadians can select their desired audience and choose the perfect method of reaching that audience

CAREER PATH
Telecommuters go nowhere
A recent global survey of executives said that people who work from home are less likely to land a promotion than their colleagues who work in the office. Yet the same executives said both types of employees were equally productive. However, an overwhelming number of executives paradoxically wished they could regularly telecommute as well.

NEWSWORTHY
Support for bilingualism
Parlez-vous the French? According to popular opinion, you should brush up on your passé composé and imparfait if you want to be prime minister some day. An overwhelming number of Canadians also supported official bilingualism in Canada. In terms of the job market, speaking both official languages could help someone find work or score a higher salary.

Russian officials sent to school
As a Russian bureaucrat, one cannot help but think that being sent back to grammar class is much better than being posted in Siberia. Fed up with his employees' poor reading, spelling and grammar, the governor of Ulyanovsk made all 2,000 of them take a language test. Those who scored lowest were enrolled in a special grammar course.

IN THE HOTSPOT
Bloggers make money, most keep day jobs
Some of the Web's most popular bloggers have turned their rants into income through Google's contextual advertising. YouTube promises the same by sharing their ad revenue with its users. However, no one is getting rich just yet. For instance, a mass-transit blogger in Boston says that it only pays for his monthly transit pass.

AROUND THE WATERCOOLER
Understanding your pay stubs
It always hurts to see the difference between your gross and net pay on your cheque stub. Before storming into HR and making a scene, it is better to be informed and know what the deductions are for. Even if you are paid in cash, you still have a right to a detailed statement of earnings and everything should add up.

Do you... fly frequently? Road warriors are a class of business people with their own culture (Admiral's lounge), status (air miles) and codes (scoring upgrades). Just as techies believe everyone in an office should know to work a computer, Road warriors believe passengers should already know how to behave in a plane. Anecdotal evidence suggests that not everyone does. Now here are the road warriors' do's and don'ts of air travel:

•  Do learn how to share armrest space.
•  Don't rearrange the overhead space.
•  Do go to the bathroom before getting on the plane.
•  Don't intrude on airline seat space.
•  Don't have loud cell phone conversations.
•  Don't drink and fly.
